The Iowa Arboretum
Sharing Our Passion for Trees, Plants and Nature with All of Iowa
The Iowa Arboretum, located on 415 acres in Boone County’s Des Moines River Valley showcases hundreds of species of trees, shrubs and flowering plants in a tranquil setting. Woodland and prairie trails provide wonderful outdoor walking opportunities.
Our main goal is to help people appreciate and better understand plant life. Here you can learn which plants are best adapted to the soils and climate of Iowa and how to use these plants properly for landscaping, gardening conservation and other purposes.
The arboretum also serves as an outdoor showcase for demonstrating the hardiness and adaptability of a variety of plants selected for the Iowa landscape. A large part of demonstration includes newly introduced tree, shrub, and herbaceous cultivars that were specifically bred to tolerate an Iowan climate.
