SUMMARY:Fall Education Series- Part Four
DESCRIPTION:So we got hit by a derecho\, now what? \nEllie Jones & Emma Hanigan\, Community Disaster Recovery Coordinator & Urban and Community Forestry Coordinator \nOn August 10\, 2020 Iowa and surrounding states were hit by a derecho\, a widespread\, long-lived\, straight-line windstorm that caused catastrophic damage across the state. It is estimated over $11 Billion of damage across the Midwest\, the most costly thunderstorm in US history. This does not include the loss of benefits of the estimated 4\,424\,426 trees in urban areas that were damaged or lost. What is next? Find out more as we discuss ways to create more resilient urban forests in Iowa. \nDiagnosing Tree Problems \nAaron Steil\, Consumer Horticulture Specialist for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach \nTrees are valuable additions to the home landscape. When problems arise with the health of a tree\, it can be difficult to determine what is causing the issue. A correct diagnosis of the problem(s) is the important first step in trying to manage an unhealthy tree. Learn about the common issues that cause problems with trees and the steps you can take to diagnose the issue. \nCoffee and Pastries Provided\nRegister Here!
