The Iowa Artists Region 5 Show will be held April 12, 2014 at the Iowa Arboretum in the Hughes Education Center.
The Amateur Iowa Artists were organized in 1970. Later changed to Iowa Artists, the group welcomes beginning and accomplished artists living in Iowa.
The state is divided into 12 regions. Each region holds a one day art show in late March or early April where artists can display their work, learn about different techniques and how to improve their own work and network with other artists. Members can enter up to three pieces of their original two- and three-dimensional artwork. Check-in is between 9:00 and 10:00 am. There is a short business meeting and demonstration of an art technique later in the morning. At 1:00 p.m. the judge critiques the ribbon winners for the audience.
The top 10% of the show are awarded blue ribbons, the next 10%, red ribbons and the next 10%, white ribbons. Honorable mention ribbons are awarded at the judge’s discretion. The blue ribbon winners will go on to the state show, which is held the first Saturday in May. The state show schedule is a repeat of the regional show’s schedule.
Region 5 includes the west central Iowa counties of Boone, Calhoun, Carroll, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie, Polk, and Webster. The public is welcome to view the show from 10:00 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 3:00.
